LEGO Starts Rolling Out Protective Equipment for Healthcare Workers
You may have noticed that I haven’t been posting much lately. As an anesthesiologist/anaesthetist (depending on where in the world you are), I have been spending time, along with my colleagues, preparing our hospitals and ourselves for a threatened surge in COVID 19 patients.
We are fortunate at this stage, to have not had the same devastating number of cases that has been seen in Europe, UK, China or the USA, although I would be naive to believe that we have avoided any significant problem at this time.
There is no doubt that we are anxious about it here, and we have all heard stories from around the world with regard to the importance of Personal Protective Equipment in minimising the impact the disease has on healthcare workers. We have also heard about industry stepping up to the plate around the world, repurposing tools and machinery towards both PPE and Ventilator production.
Therefore, I was excited to see that The LEGO Group have started to roll out face visors, important to as a part of precautions to protect the faces of Healthcare workers, on six of their holding machines in Billund. This was seen in a video to their social media channels.

4 simple brain-building activities that help preschoolers get school ready
Preschool is a foundational time in child development. Kids’ bodies and brains are growing at a rapid pace. Even with long, trying, tantrum-filled days, the first day of the Big K — kindergarten — will be here before you know it.
Before the cute photos and mommy tears, you want to do all you can to make sure they’re good and ready to climb aboard the big yellow bus and face the big day ahead. If your little is progressing at the normal rate, there’s lots you can do today to help them get kindergarten ready. The idea is to focus not on the K, but the pre-K.
Through play and activities, kids’ minds are busy developing the important skills they need to start learning kindergarten things. We’ll walk through the list and offer ideas on what you can do to help that along. Think of it as play with a purpose. If you’re in search of a way to spend a little time together, this list can be your guide.
1. Play, play, play!
Having time and space to play freely is an important part of a child’s developing brain and personality. Continue Reading →…

How Lego therapy can be a ‘massive win’ for kids with autism and their families
Seth Lester places the last block of Lego on a Jurassic Park-themed dinosaur, one of the creations he is preparing to display at the Autism Lego Expo in Mackay, north Queensland.
The annual event, which draws hundreds of children and adults alike, is held just before Christmas. For 13-year-old Seth, it’s the highlight of his year.
“Some people think people like me can’t do that much,” he said. “But having these people go to the Lego day and see all these people’s creations and being amazed at what these people can achieve, it’s really good.”
After being diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder four years ago at age nine, Seth has been attending a weekly Lego group especially for kids with autism.

It’s a chance to spend time with kids who love Lego as much as he does, as well as his mum Melanie Lester, who is here every week.
“I don’t really spend time with my family a lot,” Seth said. Continue Reading →…
