You're Never Too Young To Know: Harnessing LEGO® to teach young people about Nelson Mandela
Wow – how cool is this. The Nelson Mandela Foundation is petitioning LEGO® to create a “Madiba freedom fighter set” (Madiba being the affectionate clan name used by South Africans to refer to Mandela).
The idea behind the set is to ensure that the Madiba story continues to be told to young South Africans, to keep his lessons alive for new generations who didn’t live through the apartheid struggle. It is an idea that really speaks to the global creative power and cultural influence of LEGO®.
The Foundation is adding names to the petition now, which it intends to hand to LEGO® on 5 December 2104 (the first anniversary of Madiba’s passing). What a powerful idea!
You can see the LEGO® stop-motion animation video of Madiba’s story that the Foundation put together here below this post. Then, check out the Madiba Legocy petition site and add your name to the list!
