STEM & Junior Robotics Classes Term 3

8 part series of workshops for home educated kidz!

STEM Master Builder Series

Topic Schedule

Intro to Coding
An Introduction to visual based coding where kidz learn how to overcome practical challenges and automate their creations using the power of coding. The session is a good fun way to go on and complete our awesomely fun Junior Robotics series of Workshops.

Renewable Energy
Learn about the various forms of renewable energy and build models of windmills, rotating solar panel arrays and water wheels.

Forces & Structure – Bridges
Want to be a Lego master builder? Take the challenge to build a variety of bridge designs then test your design in our weight test competition!

Transportation
Discuss the history of various forms of transport, including the world famous Adelaide OBahn then build planes, helicopters, automobiles and more!

Forces & Structure – Tallest Tower
Kidz take a tour of the world’s tallest towers from around the world and discuss their history and construction. Then armed with some construction tips from our expert engineers the kidz are challenged to build the tallest towers standing 2 kidz tall!

Biology & Science – Dinomania
Discuss their habitats, how we study fossils, dinosaur-era plants, build their favourite dinosaurs and finally construct a giant Duplo habitat including trees and volcanoes!

Trains – How they changed the world!
Since its invention in the early 1800 trains have unified countries, created great fortunes, revolutionized life in every place they ran. Kidz will get learn to build a train then race their engineering mini marvels on our giant train track. Do we really need an excuse to pull out our giant train set?

Laws of Motion – Super Mario Karting
Want to be a Lego master builder? Take the challenge to build a motorised kart, add your own customisations and then test your creations in our Grand Prix!

Junior Robotics Series

Topic Schedule

Intro to Coding
An Introduction to visual based coding where kidz learn how to overcome practical challenges and automate their creations using the power of coding. The session is a good fun way to go on and complete our awesomely fun Junior Robotics series of Workshops.

Paper Crinkler Part I
Accross the 2 parts, kidz learn the relationships between mechanical design, remote control and automation to build a paper crinkling factory!  The kidz are challenged to pair up in teams to see who can produce the most crinkled paper!

Paper Crinkler Part II
Building on the knowledge from part I, the kidz have learnt how to mechanically optimise their crinkler factory and now its time to write some code to automate their factories.  The kidz are challenged to form teams again and compare and contrast their experiences between the 2 sessions.

Transportation
Discuss the history of various forms of transport, including the world famous Adelaide OBahn then build planes, helicopters, dump trucks and more! The coding challenges include responsding so sensor input eg sounds and writing code to make the dump truck unload!

Dance Monkey
Kidz explore linear programming to invent crazy dance moves choreagraphed to sounds and lights.

Trains – Part II
Since its invention in the early 1800 trains have unified countries, created great fortunes, revolutionized life in every place they ran. Kidz will get learn to build a train then write code to avoid collissions. Do we really need an excuse to pull out our giant train set?

Trains – Part II
Since kidz love Lego trains so much, we do it all again the following week, but this time kidz need to build a rail road crossing that automatically senses a train’s arrival, playing warning sounds, flashes lights and opens the boom gate!

Laws of Motion – Super Mario Karting
Take the challenge to build a motorised kart, add your own customisations and then test your creations in our Grand Prix! The Junior Robotics version of this event adds the additional challenge of writing code to race to the wall and then back again!
