5 Tips For Your Spring Planning! 🌼

It can be tempting to give schedules the boot when the kids are out of school for spring. However, sticking to a spring holiday schedule is better for them (and will make your life much easier). Of course, with the sunnier days and – hopefully – slower pace, your school holiday schedule can also be a bit more relaxed. Do make sure these 5 must-haves are part of your family’s schedule:
Tip 1 - Keep Your Morning Routinue During The School Holidays
1. Morning Routine

The alarm may not go off as early, and you may not have to get to work making school lunches and packing bags – but the morning routine during the Spring holidays is still important to get your days started right.  It’s better for kids and adults for that matter, to wake up at the same time every day as it will help your circadian rhythm and will keep your energy high to enjoy the spring days fully.  Remember to also have a healthy energising breakfast.

Tip 2 - Enjoy Fun Spring Holiday Activities

2. Fun Activities

Whatever you join to make the break more enjoyable; spring sports leagues, art classes, or a fun Bricks 4 Kidz® class, do plan the activities for the Spring.  It’s important to keep the kids engaged with learning during their time out of school. A Bricks 4 Kidz® school holiday workshop is a great way to teach STEAM skills.  Kids have so much fun, that they don’t even realise how much they are learning! (It’s not too late to get your child a place!)

Tip 3 - Set Aside Free Time During The School Holidays

3. Independent Free Time

What would spring be without time to do whatever you want…even if it’s nothing at all?  Make sure to “schedule” in free time for your kids to just be kids.  In other words, don’t have something planned for every minute of every day.  Independent play encourages children to be self-motivated, independent curious adults who are comfortable in their skin.

Tip 4 - Enjoy Family Time Together During Your Holidays

4. Family and Friend Time

One of the greatest things about spring holidays is more time with family and friends as the weather brings us out to socialise more.  While a family holiday to an amusement park or a beach is great, just spending time together at home is important too. Start a project together. Go fly a kite. Take walks together. Visit the park. Tell stories. Cook dinner together. Even do work together.  It doesn’t matter what you do, just enjoy those special moments together as they will be tomorrow’s memories.

Tip 5 - Keep The Bedtime Routine in The School Holidays

5. Bedtime Routinue

Stick to a bedtime routine.  You might move the bedtime back to a later time but research shows that kids who have a set bedtime do better than kids who don’t.  Improved sleep. Better behaviour. Better Energy.  Plus when it is time to go back to school the kids who have stuck to their usual school bedtime routine have no adjustments to be made.  When you set the clock back for the holidays you also run the risk of setting the clock back permanently. Make things easier by sticking to the usual bedtime so the school term starts smoothly.

Keeping routine and being social whilst still finding some personal time plays a big part of making sure you have a well-balanced and enjoyable break with the kids. Happy holidays! 🙂
