The school holidays are an exciting time for kids, but sometimes the weather makes outdoor activities challenging.  Luckily the Central Coast offers plenty of activities for kids to do during the school holidays on the Central Coast. Here are our 20 top picks, starting with the BEST:

1. Come Brick Building with Us!

Enjoy warm indoor fun and educational LEGO®-based activities for children aged 5 to 12 years at our school holiday activities located at Erina.  We have 2 weeks of themed activities running from 3 July Through to 14 July.

Our School Holiday Workshops also provide opportunities for kids to use their imagination and creativity to design their own structures and bring them to life, which can be exciting and rewarding.

Enjoy activities, games and challenges with other children allowing the opportunity for kids to socialize and make new friends, which makes for a memorable and enjoyable experience.

2. Visit The Reptile Park.

The Australian Reptile Park offers a warm and dry environment where kids can marvel at creatures such as crocodiles, snakes, and spiders. There are lots of indoor covered areas for those rainy days!

3. Play Laser Tag.

Laser Tag is a classic indoor activity for kids, and it can be played at Laserblast at Charmhaven, making it one of the most action-packed things to do with kids on the Central Coast during the winter months.

4. Build sandcastles on the indoor beach in Westfield Tuggerah.

Located in the heart of Tuggerah, kids can enjoy the beach inside during rainy days. Enjoy some fun holiday retail shopping while you are there.

5. Go Ice Skating.

Erina Ice Arena in Erina is perfect for kids of all ages who love to put on a pair of skates and hit the ice.  Enjoy disco nights and family skate times.  Erina Ice Skating also offers holiday activities for kids aged 5-14 years old during school holidays.

6. Visit the National Park Discovery Centre, Lake Munmorah.

The Lake Munmorah Discovery Centre offers interactive displays, nature trails, guided walks, art activities, games and bush exploration that will allow kids to discover the natural beauty of the Central Coast.

7. Spend some time in the library.

Central Coast libraries offer a range of workshops, activities, and events for children of all ages during the school holidays, including craft activities, science shows and storytelling. Even BRICKS 4 KIDZ are regularly invited to connect the community through fun LEGO® play.

8. Get creative in art classes.

The Central Coast has many arts and crafts studios, offering pottery painting, sculpture making, and painting classes. If you want to get messy creating check out what art holiday classes are on offer during the holidays through Facebook events, or see what your local library or art gallery is offering.

9. Visit a cinema.

The Central Coast has Erina Hoyts Cinemas where kids can stay dry and relaxed while enjoying the latest school holiday blockbusters that are soon to be released; Indiana Jones and Barbie are set to make their mark these holidays.  Hoyts Erina offers a family pass which usually includes two adult tickets and two child tickets or one adult ticket and three child tickets, along with some other special offers.

10. Play games at Timezone.

Timezone in Tuggerah offers a range of arcade games for kids, making it a perfect destination for indoor activities during rainy days. You’ll find a game you’ll get you can’t resist, and you’ll crack a smile when you finally snag that plush.

11. Go horse riding at Glenworth Valley Outdoor Activities.

Okay this one is outdoors but if the weather is clear it’s a good activity to do outside as you’ll keep warm riding and you won’t get hot like you do horse riding in the summer months. Make sure you check the forecast before you book this one though! Glenworth Valley Outdoor Adventures in Somersby provides horse riding and other outdoor activities all year round.

If you won’t mind the winter cold and are happy to be outdoors, here is a few other popular kids outdoors activities on the Central Coast. 

12. Spend a day at TreeTop Adventure Park.

TreeTop Adventure Park in Ourimbah offers a high ropes course and ziplining. With courses suitable for kids as well as adults, this is an exciting way to challenge yourself and create unforgettable memories.

13. Enjoy the Waterfall Way.

The Waterfall Way boasts a range of stunning waterfalls and national parks – a great road trip to take with the kids. Whether you want to hike, fish or simply enjoy the beauty of nature, there’s something for everyone along the way.  Somersby Falls in Brisbane Water National Park, Kincumber Mountain Creek waterfall in Kincumber Mountain Reserve, Piles Creek Loop Walk, and hidden waterfalls along the Bouddi Coastal Walk are a few to check out! You’ll need to rug up! This is more of a summer treat, but in winter it can have the best flows and be most impressive.

14. Explore the Norah Head Lighthouse.

The Norah Head Lighthouse is a great place to visit, with guided tours and beautiful coastal views. The guided tour of this historical landmark will take you through the history of the region’s maritime past and offer stunning coastal views. This is also the perfect place to enjoy a picnic with your family while soaking up the views of the surrounding coastline.

16. Visit the Gosford Classic Car Museum.

The Gosford Classic Car Museum features rare cars and motorcycles for kids to see.  This museum showcases rare and classic cars and motorcycles that will leave kids and adults alike in awe taking a trip down history lane.

17. Visit the Kariong Eco Garden.

The Kariong Eco Garden, a permaculture garden is beautiful and will teach the kids about gardening. Learn the concepts and get ready to plant come spring! Your kids will have the opportunity to explore the garden on guided tours and learn practices that can make a difference to our planet’s health.

18. Go winter fishing.

Winter is an excellent time to go fishing on the Central Coast, with plenty of spots available both on seaside and freshwater.  With the cooler temperatures, you’re also more likely to find a variety of fish species in the water. One great spot near Erina to take kids fishing is Terrigal Haven. The pier here is perfect for fishing off as it juts out into the sea, offering a good spot for kids to catch a variety of fish including bream, whiting, and flathead. 

19. Go Adaptive Snow Sports.

Kids can experience the thrill of ski and snowboarding without the need for snow at the Central Coast Adaptive Snow Sports in Ourimbah.   Can’t head to the snow this year? Try this, it is an excellent way to teach your kids the basics of skiing and snowboarding before trying it on a larger scale.

20. Try indoor trampolining.

Flip Out Trampolining Park in Erina has loads of trampolines to bounce on, plus foam pits and balance beams to explore. With plenty of activities to keep the kids active and put their boundless energy to use.

Winter days can still allow for outdoor escapades and they sometimes are best as they help to beat the summer Australian heat. That being said, be sure to plan some holiday indoor activities for those blustery freezing winter days.
