It’s no coincidence that Lego remains one of the most popular children’s (and adult’s) toys available, even in this technological age. Lego is fun and educational, and it allows kids to be creative and develop skills that will be with them for life. But the fun you can have with Lego is not limited to what you can make from sets. Here’s some fun things to do with Lego that you might not have even thought of. If you can dream it, you can build it!

Learn words and build sentences

There are many games and educational aids that help children to develop their vocabulary and learn how to structure sentences, but why not make your own using Lego? Make sure the Lego blocks you use are clean, then apply a sticky label to each block. Use a pen to write letters on each block; you can use different colours to distinguish vowels from consonants if you like. Then you can join blocks together to make words. Write words on larger bricks and teach your kids how to structure sentences. See the full how-to guide here:

Make a photo frame

This makes an unusual but pretty fun way to frame a favourite photo. A 3 x 5 photo will fit nicely in a 13 by 18 dot Lego rectangle. Just use some flat pieces for the base and use some 1 x 4 and 1 x 6 dot pieces for a border and voila, a frame for your favourite memories. See how to make the frame here;

Minifigure necklace

Your kids will love this cute necklace, made from a Lego minifigure, and what’s better, it’s super easy to make. Here’s how to make one:

Use glue to attach the minifigure’s hair to the head securely. Take a small screw eye and carefully work it into the plastic on the top of the head. Thread your desired neck chain through the screw eye, and there you have your necklace! To see the finished article, click here;

Lego noughts and crosses

This simple but fun game is really easy to make, and might just be a lifesaver on long car journeys! You need a Lego base board, some narrow Lego bricks (1 dot wide), and some bricks that are the same size and colour. Press the narrow Lego pieces into a grid formation on the base board, then choose some bricks as your game pieces. Choose 2 very different colours like blue and yellow. Now you’re ready to play! Marble maze

This game is addictive, and can even be mesmerising, watching the marble roll through the maze. You can make a small 16 x 16 dot maze or a larger 32 x 32 maze, which certainly leaves room for making it a little trickier! To make the marble move, hold the tray and tilt it back and forth so that the marble rolls. Check out how to do it here:
